The Subject of Protection of Library Collections in World Periodicals Based on the BABIN Database from the Years 1990—2010

Summary/Abstract: The work constitutes an overview of the source literature concerning theoretical and practical issues related to the protection of library collections. The said overview consists in discussing the articles included into "Bibliografia Analityczna Bibliotekoznawstwa i Informacji Naukowej. Piśmiennictwo zagraniczne" [i.e. Analytical Bibliography of Library and Information Science. Foreign Literature] (BABIN) for the years 1990—2010. The texts pertaining to the protection of collections were separated into several issues: theoretical works, methods of preserving library collections, library theft, disasters at libraries and handling their aftermaths, factors having detrimental impact on library collections’ materials as well as programmes aimed at conversion of library collections. By analysing the above-mentioned issues, we gain a necessary perspective not only regarding the schemes and projects implemented around the world, but also on experience of various libraries within the scope of the preservation and protection of documents.
