Summary/Abstract: On the basis of two well-known case studies – his own work on clairvoyance and his researches on navy boats – the author shows how sociologists draw certain borderlines between research topics in the social sciences. Certain topics and certain approaches are more recognized than others in sociology and anthropology. In some cases, certain topics are stigmatized, and consequently, so are the researchers who approach them.
