Sacralisation of the Bulgarian Lands on the Textsof the Balkan Hagiography

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the sacred geography of the Bulgarian lands, which supports a theological interpretation of Slavic culture, proving that Bulgaria was chosen by God and enjoys God’s special grace, which God shows to her people and state. The text also highlights ways of the sanctifi cation of the land. They are mainly based on the biblical code and on the theory of divine rewards for the country chosen by Him. In conclusion it may be said that this way of presenting the land had an important ideological function and exerted considerable influence on shaping the awareness of the Bulgarian nation.
