Summary/Abstract: The present paper analyses degrees of equivalence in the translation of verbally expressed humour. Contrary to the traditional belief that it is dynamic equivalence which is more effective in translating humour, the paper attempts to demonstrate that formal correspondence might be as effective in certain cases.
