Summary/Abstract: The article is an interpretation of the aquatic rhetoric in the works of a Ukrainian writer, Yurii Andrukhovych. The first part of the article is an analysis of the discursive project of European unification, a real integration between the West and Central Europe, especially Ukraine. The rhetorical figures of that unification in the author’s texts are the rivers, the Danube in the first place. The second part of the article is a critical discussion of the obstacles that, in the perspective of the author, stand on the way to the unification in question: the condition of contemporary Ukraine and the West’s attitude to the “worse” part of the continent.
