Summary/Abstract: A lot has been written about the editions of Emanuel Ringelblum’s Notes, both in and outside Jewish communities. Most of the reviewers viewed that testimony as a faithful record of the times of the Holocaust and emphasized its historical value for the generations to come. It was only in the Bund magazine Unzer Tsait, published in New York, that Jacob Szolem Hertz, using the pen name of J. Hart, made a critical analysis of the Notes as a source document for studying the history of the Warsaw Ghetto and the situation of the Jews under the Nazi occupation. Next to summarizing Hertz’s review, the author of this article portrayed the never ending ideological struggle between Bund and Poale Zion-Left and its impact on the shaping of historical memory of the Holocaust of Polish Jews.
