Summary/Abstract: The transition from a centralized economic system, as in Soviet period, to a liberal, based on market relations has led to serious disturbances in the pension system in our country. Mass closure of large enterprises of the state has made a good part of employees to become unemployed, and the new small and medium enterprises, develop very slowly, so that many of those aged over 45-50 years has failed to find a job in order to obtain the internship required for retirement. As a result, most pensioners receive a pension lower than minimum level of subsistence of the country.Signing the Association Agreement with the EU in June 2014, sets new requirements for the pension system in our country, especially those relating to the retirement age. However, the Parliament adopting the new regulations in this area should take into account the living standards of the population, the minimum level of subsistence and the longevity of life in our country, which is one of the lowest in Europe.
