Summary/Abstract: The article explores, based on the experience of the Turks of Bulgarian origin-immigrants to Izmir, processes and conditions for adapting and integrating migrants into Turkish society. The main emphasis is on the use of family relationships as a means of mutual support and group solidarity in emigration. The thesis evolves that the role of family relationships succumbs to neighbourhood relationships and work-place support. At the same time, family networks function as the living bridge between the birthplace and the new environment. Additionally, comparisons have been made with the life of the Turkish community in Bulgaria with a view of attitudes and integration strategies for the future.
