Summary/Abstract: The language of folk epos about heroes uses a system of codes to express the various modalities of the main conflict – the world of “its” heroes versus the world of their enemies. One of these codes is the code of the body. The article traces some counterpoints typical of the epos described by the code of the body. The thesis that the body of the epic hero is identical with the “body” of the ethnical community is suggested. It is also stressed on the tendency hero’s body to occupy all possible positions in the epic socium – that of the ruler, soldier and farmer, being equally active in each of the zones.
