Summary/Abstract: The subject of this paper is the fi gures of monarchs in East Slavic incantations. On the one hand, historical fi gures can be discerned: monarchs from the Old Testament (Achav, David, Salomon, Joseph e.a.), holy monarchs (Constantine and his mother Helena), monarchs which are not connected with Christianity (Alexander the Great), as well as holy princes (Boris and Gleb, Alexander Nevskiy e.a.). In the incantations, also Ivan the Terrible is mentioned. On the other hand, attention will be paid to different kinds of mythical folklore heroes, such as snake tsars, Tsar- Ogon (and Tsaritsa Iskra), and others. The paper will present an analysis of the names, attributes, and magic functions of incantational monarchs, and also the locuses in which they appear, the persons with whom they appear together or to whom they oppose etc. Necessary historic-cultural information will be provided.
