Summary/Abstract: The text briefly presents the musical tradition in Beli Iskar, Samokov region, and makes an attempt at describing its situation in the last century and in the same time at covering the main directions of its development during the period from the 1920s-1930s till now. Beli Iskar village is situated near Samokov town and the urban culture – including the musical one – inevitably affects the village’s music life. The musical system that used to function is described here through narratives. The main place in it in the past was taken by the two-part singing. Later this system was modernized by urban musical phenomena like wind instrumental orchestra, etc. Nowadays we can observe an organized “return” to the local two-part singing, incited by the existence of the traditional musical folklore in the newest time and by a number of extra-musical factors. The conclusion drawn here is that together with the development and enrichment of the musical life, the two-part singing also proves to be a stable form in the local musical tradition, even if with some functional and contextual changes.
