Knowledge Management in Public Services-Lessons learned from European Experience

Summary/Abstract: The age of technology where knowledge and information serve as key strategic tools in the organisational context, creates the opportunity for local government to become a of knowledge-based organisations that thrive on the competence of knowledge workers and partners in improving services for community. This research paper examines the question of whether the explicit implementation of a knowledge management (KM) approach in local government, the primary vehicles for the delivery of services, can enable them to meet delivery demands better. We will present the challenges local authorities must deal with in implementing the KM component in their institutions.
