Performance indicators in health care entities with particular emphasis on management control

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present the design rules of performance indicators and their basic attribute for the management of health care organization, mainly for their use in management control in public sector entities. Apart from defining the concept of indicator and showing various criteria of its classification in health care sector, some examples of indicators used in management control in public health care organizations are presented. In this area, two ranges of indicators usage are shown: for management control as a system of measurement and performance evaluation and for the quality assessment of internal structure of that system. The article also describes problems and limitations in construction and the use of indicators for the public health care organization management. The paper uses the method of literature research, descriptive analysis connected with the method of deduction.
