Summary/Abstract: Between 1662/3 and 1625/6 a large menologium in eight volumes was compiled at the monastery of Hilandar on Athos under the supervision of its abbot Hilarion and is still to be found in the monastery’s library, codices 439-446. Six of them containing the months of September to April were copied by the monk Abercius (Аверкий), while the final two, one with the entries for May and June and the other with those for July and August, were copied by an anonymous monk. Since the curator of the Hilandar Research Library, in honour of whom the volume with this article is to appear, was born in August, it seemed appropriate to give a detailed description of the contents of the entries of codex 446 in the Hilandar collection with the months of July and August. Its contents are compared with those found in East Slav menologia for the same months. The comparison reveals that the South and East Slav traditions vary considerably since of the thirty-five entries in the Hilandar menologium no fewer than seventeen have not been traced in the East Slav tradition, while the East Slav tradition contains six early translations which have not survived in South Slav codices.
