Complex Competitiveness Examination of Settlements with Medicinal and Thermal Spa in Western Transdanubia and Southern Transdanubia

Summary/Abstract: The study examines the competitiveness of those settlements, which operate medicinal and thermal baths by thehelp of constructing a composite index. After the overview of the most important, relevant literature, the paperdescribes the steps of index configuration. The situation of settlements was analyzed by cluster analysis. Thereare six sub-indices in the model, four of them measures the competitiveness of settlements generally, two ofthem represents the touristic competitiveness. The composite index was created on the basis of 41 settlements’data from two Hungarian regions, Western and Southern Transdanubia. The study aims to recommend tourismbaseddevelopment opportunities for each group of settlements.
