Summary/Abstract: The first Polish innovation park was established by the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań in 1995 as a non-profit organization of a scientific character. In 2009 there were already 24 innovation parks in Poland with 583 firms and 17 070 staff working within their frames. Technology incubator is a specific kind of the innovation park focused in supporting new-established companies. The first innovation incubators were created in 1990–1991 in Poznań, Warszawa and Gdańsk. In the middle of 2009 there was already 17 technology incubators in Poland, half of which were operating within the existing innovation parks. Knowledge-based economy enhances the creation of innovation parks and technology incubators and creates possibilities for their development. The present favorable surrounding for these kind of entities may hopefully lead to establishing in Poland a new “silicon valley”.
