Summary/Abstract: If the border between normal and pathological could be precisely defined, many serious illnesses would progress on a different way and human suffering would diminish. A research project combining medicine and philosophy is motivated by the need to explore on a theoretical basis an experience lived side by side with the Other. A humanistic education for future generations of physicians – a curriculum including “humanities” – would certainly improve the future medical activity, as it would take into account not only the real, objective body, but also the subjective, non-real mind. Health and illness should be seen in the complex relationship between objective conclusions and individual experience.
