Feminine first names – local and social reference points in Oltenian toponymy

Summary/Abstract: thing can be explained if we take into account the central role played by men in family life and in society. Only in their absence (as a result of decease, army, etc., generally speaking, of their prolonged absence from home), or when a man entered, by marriage, into a woman’s household, this time, was the whole family referred to by the latter’s name. This paper attempts to trace the extent to which feminine first names belong to Oltenian toponyms.
