On the Uncharted Waters of the Social Media

Summary/Abstract: Social networks, particularly websites like Kwejk.pl and Demotywatory.pl, are characterized by the high creative potential of their users. At the same time, they are aggregators of content that often violates copyright laws. Their authors can be viewed not only as ‘Internet pirates’, but also as people who through the creation of popular texts have upset the dominant cultural order. The author describes these phenomena using the metaphor of a pirate ship.
