Summary/Abstract: This article studies the modern results of the Old Bulgarian vowel system in a dialect which is outside the national borders of Bulgaria. The dialect is that of the ethnic Bulgarians from Golo Bardo, Albania, a region comprising one of the eight subdistricts of the large Debar region located in the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Albania. The results of historical changes in the vowel system of the dialect are studied in detail, since they form an important element in the taxonomy of the dialect of Golo Bardo and help in determining the typology of its relationship with the rest of the Bulgarian speech area and the standard Bulgarian language.
