Summary/Abstract: Research on the position of women in society has drawn, so far, minimal attention in the Czech Republic. However, there is a large amount of source material on this topic. In this article, I have concentrated my view on the political life of women in Moravia in the 1920’s. Liberal oriented moravian women were organized in the Land Organisation of Progressive Moravian Women, founded in 1924. This organisation developped the activity of liberal oriented women at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. The constitution of 1920 gave to women in the Czechoslovak Republic the same political and civil rights as to men, but, in fact, the equality given by law did not immediately penetrate everyday life. This was true for many reasons, such as old prejudices, the inertia of custom and, also, by the economic structure of the period. The sources that I have examined can prove that women’s social activity, due to the acceptance of general voting rights during the first half of the 20th century, further increased and reached the important dimensions and influence.
