Summary/Abstract: Left and right-wing government exchanges are normal, but the rise of extreme rightists isn’t. Until recently, most European countries were governed by socialist, social democratic, or socialist-led coalitions. Today, the reverse is true. In recent years, the socialists have lost their leading position in seven countries.
