Contemporary barriers in strategic governance of local development in Poland

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses contemporary barriers in strategic governance of local development characteristic for Polish local governments. These barriers were identified by means of using the participant observation method in the period 2000-2015. The introduction to the article presents the reasons, origins, purpose, method, techniques and the course of conducted research. Next key article categories are discussed: local development, local development governance and strategic governance of local development. The core part of the article s devoted to presenting 9 groups of identified barriers, i.e. methodological, legal, social participation, informational, staff, substantive support, cooperation, patterns barriers and also barriers resulting from personal qualities of local authorities. The article is concluded by providing recommendations regarding the continuation of research covering these barriers.
