Summary/Abstract: The article explores the similarities between two saints – St. Alexius, the Man of God, and St. John Calybitе. It presents a brief history of their hagiographic traditions East and West, and their veneration among the Orthodox Slavs. The article focuses on their respective Canons written by Joseph the Hymnographer—the two most popular hymnographic texts about the saints in Slavic milieu. Through a comparative textological analysis, the author highlights both the peculiarities in form and content of each work and their similarities in building the characters of these typologically similar saints.
