About an Unknown Copy of Questions of St. Ephremus from the Second Half of the 19th Century

Summary/Abstract: The present article publishes the text of Questions of St. Ephremus as given in a copy unknown to scholars and included in a late and poorly known monument, vyz. MS № 228 from the collection of The Ecclestiastical Historical and Archival Institute of the Patriarchate of Bulgaria. In spite of omissions in the text (probably no more than one page in the beginning), the work Questions of St. Ephremus from this MS can be linked with some earlier copies as it includes the questions and answers dedicated to Satanael. The first of these questions has been preserved partially and it is with it that there begins the eratopocritical text. In comparison with the copies of that work published so far, the text under study is closest textologically to Baicho's copy from 16th с At the same time, however, one notices a number of textual and laxical variant readings that point to an original that has not been published. The MS under consideration, which as a whole shows a number of features typical of speech in the area of the town ofRazlogfrom the second half of the 19th century, presents a very late copy of an eratopocritical work, a copy so far unknown to scholars. This copy undoubtedly derives from an original unknown so far, which existed at that time in the Razlog area.
