The current language situation and attitudes towards English loan words in Bulgarian

Summary/Abstract: The proposed text considers the functioning of loan words from English in contemporary Bulgarian, while taking into account the need for every literary language to evolve and enrich itself with language resources adequate to every epoch, including loan words from other languages. When the evolution of language requires it, the use of words of foreign origin is acceptable if it’s not overdone, but the process has to be studied so as to ways for its regulation could be designated. This text advocates the notion that policies related to national language should not service purist objectives and place it in cultural isolation but contribute to the intensification of its inner potential and the enrichment of its communicative and stylistic resources.
