Summary/Abstract: Organizational life cycle phase models are used to describe, interpret and predict the course of a wide variety of developmental processes of modern enterprises, including the SME sector companies. Despite the considerable conceptual differentiation of them it is possible to distinguish certain phases of development characteristic of many SMEs. One of the criteria to separate them may be the replacement of static and dynamic phases, expressing variation of the intensity of development processes, market activity and investment. The purpose of the article is to identify and assess the theoretical basis, the specific nature and the determinants of statics and dynamics in the life cycle of SMEs. The goal of the paper was pursued through survey research conducted on a sample of 1,217 micro, small and mediumsized enterprises from Poland.
