Summary/Abstract: A purpose of this article is to identify factors boosting and impeding the innovative activity of industrial enterprises in Poland and the recommendation of measures to improve the level of innovation of enterprises resulting in the increase of country innovativeness. Conclusions are based on surveys conducted by telephone interviews CATI (Computer Assisted Telephone Interview) with managers of companies. An analysis of presented results enables to draw the following key findings: Companies are not able to finance innovative activity on their own. A support of the state by tax reliefs and other incentives is also needed in the financing of R&D activities. There is still insufficient supply of workers with proper skills enabling the implementation of key innovations. Therefore it is necessary to better adapt the education market to company needs. Every organization should create its own culture of innovation based on trust constituting a source of competitive advantage. Unfortunately the innovative activity of the majority of companies is still initiated by competitors and does not result from the implementation of the thought-out strategy of development and innovation.
