Summary/Abstract: The article adresses the issue of paradoxes that occur in the management of family businesses. Family businesses are a particular type of business entities; their uniqueness stems from the coexistence of family and business interaction in the family business. The purpose of this article is to discuss the paradoxes found in the management of family companies and to identify the effects of alternative ways of managing family businesses. The author has focused in particular on the presentation of the following paradoxes that occur in family businesses: professional management versus traditional management; employee selection system based on merit versus nepotism in hiring staff. In the summary the conclusions of this analysis are presented. The article is based on the study of literature; mainly English-speaking and research experience of the author.
