Means of Time Expression in the Romanian Communities in Spain

Summary/Abstract: In the present paper, we analyze the manner in which the Spanish language influences the communication of Romanian immigrants in Spain in the expression of time, both at morphological and syntactic level. The corpus on which our research is based consists of interviews with a number of twenty-five Romanian people in Spain, in February 2009. The informants favour within the communication in the Romanian language the use of the indicative mood- Present tense, Past tense, Future- the conjunctive and the gerund. When verbs are taken from the Spanish language, they are adapted to Romanian flexion. In order to observe the manner in which time is expressed at the level of syntactic groups, we analyzed verbal groups which have as centre verbs borrowed from the Spanish language and prepositional groups with the function of time adverbial.
