Summary/Abstract: This paper aims at introducing Shenzhen, one of the most prominent contemporary Chinese cities. Established as a part of experiment, it serves as an example of successful modernization and progress for the whole country. Promoted as such, has attracted millions of people, that became part of both internal (wandering from rural to urban areas as a part of floating population) and international waves of migration, as people move there in hope for better life. Even though not everyone can become successful and not all the dreams happen to come true.
