MAIN STRATEGIES OF DIALECT TRANSLATION OF LYRICS BY SERGEY YESENIN INTO THE POLISH LANGUAGE

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses problems connected with the strategy of dialect translation of lyrics byS. Yesenin into the Polish language. The author of the article shows the most important functions,which dialects serve in lyrics, and analyses the strategy that are the most frequently employed intheir translation. The results of the investigation show the following distinctive features of transferringdialect from Russian to the Polish language: translators usually decide to replace dialectwith neutral lexis or they give up translating dialect at all. As a consequence of such decisions, twophenomena can be observed: changes in the pragmatics of language function and impoverishmentof the author’s poetic language.
