Summary/Abstract: The paper attempts to define the Cyrillo-Methodian tradition as part of the culturological dimension of Bulgarian Letters. This is done within the context of the emergence and development of Slavic Studies, and Cyrillo-Methodian Studies in particular. The author describes and systematizes the main factors and principles of the national and European traditions that characterize the Cyrillo-Methodian oeuvre in the literary world of the Middle Ages and the time of the Bulgarian National Revival. The purpose of this systematization is to show the relatively uninterrupted continuity of the literary tradition that preserved the respect for and veneration of the Cyrillo-Methodian oeuvre – a symbol of Slavic literacy and education. By means of a general review of the literary forms that are determined by the interpretation of the Cyrillo-Methodian themes and by the elaboration of the symbolic images of the Slav apostles by Bulgarian men of letters, the paper describes the meaning of these genres and images across time and space, a presentation that is a genuine fact of culture.
