Summary/Abstract: The above theme, discusses the aspect of motifs appearing in the popular art through cult symbols, such as the snake. Motifs with the snake’s figure were made in different shapes and materials, such as wood, metal, textile, stone etc. The snake as a totem and animal of cult is found also among Illyrians, in the appear-ances of these figures in different places and materials, particularly on headstones. This tradition of presentation was passed on also to their Albanian descendants, in dif-ferent forms and styles. We find snake’s figure motifs even today carved into various objects, especially in folk instruments, like lutes, etc.
