Summary/Abstract: The international research conference Šlechticùv Žid, Žid šlechticem. Židovské elity a židovská šlechta v novovìku a v moderní dobì was held at Tovaèov Chateau on 4 April 2013. Although the organizers – on the Czech side, Katedra historie Filozofické fakulty Ostravské univerzity [Department of History, Faculty of Arts, University of Ostrava] and Ústav svìtových dìjin Filozofické fakulty Univerzity Karlovy v Praze [Institute of World History, Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague] and on the Polish side, Akademia im. Jana Dugosza v Czêstzochowie [Jan Dlugosz University, Czestochowa] – used the term ‘conference’ in the title of this event, it had more the form of a workshop. This was not at all detrimental, in fact quite the contrary. The twelve participants of the conference met around a single table, where they presented their papers about which there later developed a lively discussion. The topic of this meeting was extremely attractive – especially the relationship of the Jewish population in the Bohemian and Polish lands towards the nobility. The other main topic involved the question of Jewish elites promoted to the nobility and their relationships and contacts with the Christian nobility, whether of ancient origin or the new nobility from wealthy burgher circles.
