Summary/Abstract: Review of Bożena Witosz’s book Genologia lingwistyczna. Zarys problematyki [‘Linguistic genology. An outline’], Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Śląskiego [Silesian University Press], Katowice, 2003. According to the reviewer, the book is a successful attempt at outlining a comprehensive programme of genological research situated within linguistics whilst also referring to the achievements of linguistic pragmatics, communication theory of text and literary-scholarship genology. The book presents the state-of-play as regards the research in question and the discipline’s notional tools, shows various categorisation concepts, discusses the issue of evolution of the genre forms. Moreover, it builds a genre typology model of its own. On top of all that, a certain terminological custom is proposed.
