Summary/Abstract: The demographic potential of Poland depends on two main processes: the ageing process of the Polish society and decline in fertility. Taking this into account, the demographic situation of contemporary Poland is described as dramatic. Therefore, it is necessary to create appropriate family policy which will prevent the negative consequences of these processes. The main aim of this article is to show the statistical data connected with these processes. The analysis will be focused only on these two issues (others are only mentioned) and it will be the basis for discussion about family policy and its actions. The article presents selected activities of Polish family policy which may reverse the negative demographic trends.
