Summary/Abstract: Novel advances in computing and communication technologies together with the rapid proliferation of information sources present unprecedented opportunities for the development of integrative learning environments. This article explores collaborative approaches to knowledge acquisition from distributed, autonomous, semantically heterogeneous data and knowledge sources in the perspective of building optimal blends of learning components.
