Summary/Abstract: This paper discusses a proposal for an adaptation engine implementation based on software services. The proposed realization is designed in conformity with a specific conceptual model of adaptive hypermedia learning system. Its main goal is to generate actual adaptation outcomes, such as learning content, control tests, link annotations, adaptive navigation, etc. The adaptation engine is responsible for correct execution of the adaptive process, which is formalized by first order logic predicates. In the article, it is given the architecture of the whole adaptive e-learning system and it is shown the place of the adaptation engine and relations with the other modules in the system. Benefits of this approach are portability to different software platforms, flexibility and scalability. More, the implementation based on web services allows re-usability of application functionality.
