STREAMING SOLUTIONS AT UPT

Summary/Abstract: In our contemporary era of ICT rapid developments, where media goes almost entirely online, the need to improve the Internet, digital TV and other interactive services for students and teachers becomes not only urgent, but also essential. Nowadays, the access to information constitutes the most undeniable right of all people (Goggin 1982) [1]. As follows, this paper will present a series of UPT projects, which involve streaming technologies, an essential part of the web 2.0 paradigm. We built and promoted the structure of: 􀀹 Web based presentation systems for users who wish to participate to a conference, but are unable to be physically present [2]; 􀀹 Remote surveillance systems with cross-platform compatibility, a wide range of camera types, an open-source streaming server [3] [4], various types of streaming protocols, codecs and video containers [5]. 􀀹 Digital signage for the students’ needs - a combination of text, ticker messages, photo gallery and video broadcasting [6] [7].
