Summary/Abstract: Transitional societies in the Balkans are interconnected in many ways, including by common problems inherited from the socialism times that fully emerged as radical transformation of the social relations had started. One of the major issues for these societies, that is is holding back the reform process, is phenomenon of organized crime. Wars, poverty, high level of unemployment, corruption, and dysfunctional institutions contributed to creation of social atmosphere favorable for criminal activities.
