Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study is to determine the influence of self-schema on the choice of a conflict solving strategy. The study has two parts, the first is exploratory and it is based on a qualitative analysis and the second is a quantitative analysis. The main hypothesis is that schematics for conflict and male participants have a more egocentric approach to conflict. A questionnaire with 6 vignettes and a scale for the measure of self-schema were used. The scale was built using the model of Markus (1977). The participants were divided in 4 categories for analysis: pacifists, conflictive, nonschematics and ambivalent. The participants are 140 students in psychology and computer science. The qualitative analysis shows that interpersonal conflict has the most important impact on the choice of a strategy for conflict resolution. Moreover, a significant number of avoidant reactions such as withdrawal or abandon were observed. As for the influence of self-schema there are few significant but constant differences between pacifists and conflictive but not necessarily between nonschematics and these categories. The nonschematics differ sometimes from conflictive and sometimes from pacifists, but never from both for the same dimension.
