Summary/Abstract: The statements of the Second Vatican Council explicitly indicate that liturgy is one of the basic sources of homilies. A homily is part of liturgy itself and fulfils different functions there. This way it becomes a lecture on holy mysteries and Christian life, which is done on the basis of the writings of the saints in relation to the liturgical year. The techniques of a homilist should be organized so as to give direct access to liturgical texts which can thoroughly explain the ceremonies and introduce people to a deeper experience of the performed mystery. A key to this can be subject indices placed in handbook-like studies.
