His personal destiny provides an insight into the life of the Transylvanian Roman Catholic Church during the period of the so-called peace movement. During this period the communist authorities have attempted to create a Catholic church structure independent from Rome, subordinated to the state This essay aims at discussing the extremely difficult and less known epoch of the history of the Transylvanian Roman Catholic Church, between 1949–1955, through the lens of Béla Jaross’ life path.
