Summary/Abstract: This article presents the ethnic structure of the population of Serbia (excluding Kosovo and Metohia), as well as that of Serbia proper and Vojvodina, according to the 2002 census results. The ethnic composition of the population by municipalities, characterized by the process of ethnic homogenization and spatial demographic polarization, is also analyzed. However, the completion of a thorough ethnodemographic analysis is hindered by the fact that the migration related census data obtained in 2002 have not yet been processed and consequently this presentation is limited to a study of the importance and contribution of natural growth and the subjective factor of changes in the ethnic picture, with the result that migrations have been estimated only indirectly. Furthermore, for the same reasons of objectivity, this article does not include data on native language or religious affiliation, which represent important ethnic characteristics.
