Summary/Abstract: The beginning of Polish history of competition protection dates back to the inter war times. It was then that the first bills in a different way approached the issues related to the protection of competition than it is today. After World War II, the first law to protect competition did not appear until 1987. Since then, the competition protection authorities in Poland have undergone significant transformations, also under the influence of the accession to the European Union. The purpose of this paper is: first, to trace the history of the development of formal institutions competition protection in Poland, and secondly, to attempt to determine how the Polish system of competition protection is the result of the endogenous process (also typical for Polish informal institutions), and how much the effect of external influence and what place is occupied by this system in the transformation process. Achieving this goal will be possible thanks to the analysis of legislation and comparative analysis of Polish law.
