Summary/Abstract: The Agency for Development of Higher Education and Quality Assurance in Bosnia and Herzegovina was established at the end of 2008, as one of the key institutions in the further implementation of reform processes in higher education of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Work and authority of the Agency are precisely prescribed by the Framework Law on Higher Education (“Official Gazette of BH”, no.57/07). The independence and impartiality of the Agency in the external evaluation of universities and study programs in Bosnia and Herzegovina shall be ensured by external experts for accreditation engaged through transparent procedures. However, the heterogeneous approach and delay in the reform processes, fragmentation of higher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and insufficient financial support for reforms represent enormous challenges for the Agency. In this presentation the authors shall describe the role and importance of the Agency on the reforms in higher education, the current status of the organization, planned activities as well as the challenges the Agency is facing in its work.
