Summary/Abstract: The association is any form of free and voluntary association of an individual or legal person, that is to protect their interests or for the protection of human rights and freedoms, as well as other beliefs or goals (humanitarian, cultural, professional, technical, scientific, health .....), without the intention of making a profit, subject to the rules governing the organization and the functioning of the forms of association. The association acquires legal status upon registration in the register of associations.the medjimurje region was observed in the second half of the 19th century, the effect of actions of various associations and companies which contribute to the wider community. The continuity of the existence of different profile associations and societies (sports, humanitarian, professional ..) Is not interrupted even during the period between the two world wars. By the end of world war ii due to new circumstances of numerous associations and societies they have ceased to function, and in the period up to the 1990 are replaced by different associations (SUBNOR-i, and volunteer fire departments ..). After the 1990, thanks to the establishment of democratic order and the constitutional guarantee of civil rights and liberties brings the re-establishment of political parties, trade unions and civic associations. In the area of medjimurje currently operates 1,211 civic associations. Of this number, most associations are registered associations in the fields of economy, technology, culture, sports and other activities. A much smaller number of associations are registered in areas such as ecology, environmental protection, human rights and freedom, science, education, child protection, youth and women, etc. Depending on the number and type of indicators, such associations that are present in an area they may represent an indicator of the level of development of the same area. The subject matter of civic associations deserves special attention because it reflects the activity of associations that can manifest itself in many ways, especially if the association acted as a direct or indirect factor that influenced the creation or implementation of certain government policies.
