Summary/Abstract: Lower Tuzla in the Austro-Hungarian period, in addition to significant industrial, became the cultural, educational and administrative center for a wider area, and the backbone of intense cultural development and revival. The initial impulses cultural revival, start in the mid-nineteenth century, intensified with the arrival and influence of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the result of the overall political and socio-economic circumstances in the time allowed. The establishment and operation of Bosniak reading room in Tuzla and its surrounding area, the Austro-Hungarian period, had a significant role in the cultural and educational activities, and national awakening and maturing of the Bosniak population. This paper, based largely on the historical sources of the first order, aims to demonstrate the importance of Bosniak Library in cultural and educational elevation of the Bosniak population. The work brings some new historical facts about the reading rooms, the specifics of their establishment and functioning.
