Summary/Abstract: Understanding the problems which have arisen over time in the proceedings for recognition and enforcement of judgments in the member states of the European Union, the Council adopted Council Regulation (EC) no. 2201 of 27 November 2003 concerning jurisdiction and the recognition and enforcement of judgments in matrimonial matters and the matters of parental responsibility, repealing Regulation (EC) no. 1347 /2000, which was done to simplify the procedures for recognition and enforcement and even to suppress them in certain matters.Consequently, this regulation aims to expedite and simplify judicial procedures for recognition and enforcement of judgements in matrimonial matters and parental responsibility by executing them directly, thereby minimizing problems such as unlawful removal or retention or of breaking the contact with one of the parents.
